IDEAS, THOUGHTS AND THINGS TO INSPIRE US
Friendship...
by Michele L. Mueller on 09/12/10
I'd like to create a piece built around the idea of "friendship"...old friendships and new friendships. I don't know if I want to do something a little more traditional or something more contemporary...or somewhere in between! ;)
I would love to hear any thoughts or ideas you have that have inspired YOU in your friendships. You may either comment here or on my Panes of Art FaceBook page or if you wish to keep your thoughts more private... email me instead! I can't wait to hear from you! :)
Saw Blade
by Michele L. Mueller on 09/05/10It's amazing how many people approach me about painting their saw blades! I'm working on a large, round blade right now and I'm not sure yet if I'm enjoying it! ;)
Marinette County Fair
by Michele L. Mueller on 08/29/10
I'm having a great time at the fair. Today (Sunday) is the last day - I'll be there until 5pm this afternoon.
I've met a lot of great people and I've had some awesome conversations. Thanks to everyone for stopping by my booth and thank you for your business!
If you haven't had a chance to stop by yet be sure to do so today!
Have a great Sunday and try to stay cool with this humidity! (You're welcome to hang out and cool off at my booth...I have a fan! ;)

Busy Week Ahead
by Michele L. Mueller on 08/23/10
This week I'll be finishing up projects and getting ready for my display at the Marinette County Fair, in Wausaukee, WI. I'll be on site Thur.-Sun. (This is the last show I have scheduled for awhile so I'm not sure when I'll be out & about with my work again.) It will be some long hours but I'm really looking forward to it. If you get a chance - stop by and say "Hi"!
If I'm not around...you'll find me in the animal barn trying to pet and hold everything! ; ) Now that I think about it a little more...that might ONLY happen on Thursday - they might get sick of me trying to sneak away with (finally my very own!) baby lamb and "ban" me from the barn after that! ; )
New Piece
by Michele L. Mueller on 08/13/10
I'm very excited about this new piece I started working on today. It's actually NOT a window, rather an old, scrolled, wooden piece of...well...it looks like it might have been off the top of a mirror or old dresser.
I'm not exactly sure what I'll use it for - I could hang a sign from it - maybe and old window pane that I'll paint that says Panes of Art...? I found this piece in an old, run down building piled underneath a bunch of stuff. I'm going to see if I can find out more about the building and maybe that will lead me to know a little bit more about this piece.
While I was working on this piece I felt as though it was saying, "Thank you for saving me from a tragic end of nothingless! Now I might actually be something worth looking at!" :)
Waves Found in Old Glass...
by Michele L. Mueller on 08/08/10
I had a very interesting conversation at today's show with a gentleman who explained to me the reasoning behind waves found in old glass - as it was explained to him by an older man who glazed windows for a living. What was told to him was something like this: waves in old glass are found because the molecules in the glass are always changing so over a long period of time - these waves appear, etc.
I was so interested in what he shared with me I decided to do a little research on the topic this evening (since I can't sleep because of the storms). What I read so far says that many believed that glass is a form of "liquid" and that over time the "liquid" shifts thus explaining why the consistency of old windows in old buildings are much "thicker" at the bottom - because over time the liquid has basically seeped downward.
THEN...I read that this is not true and is a very common misconception. When in fact, waves found in old window glass are a result of their manufacturing process. Additionally, the window panes that were thicker at the bottom were due to the installers actually hanging them so the thicker part of the pane, or heavier part of the window, was placed at the bottom. Again, the inconsistancy in the glass thickness was due to how it was "manufactered" at the time.
So, thank you to the kind gentleman who stopped by my booth today and shared such interesting information with me! It's really sparked a whole new interest for me - finding out more about how old glass was made! Thanks you! :)
This Weekend...
by Michele L. Mueller on 08/05/10I'd like to get one more piece done for this weekend but the clock is ticking away SO fast. Help...take the batteries outta that thing, quick! ;)
Ouch...
by Michele L. Mueller on 07/28/10
I have to remember that even though some of the windows are old the glass is still very sharp!
I spent some time yesterday popping out some tight glazing that was just WAY too wide - it was SO visible from the other side of the pane that the art work would have been lost. So, sometimes, even though the glazing is still holding strong - I need to pop it out so I can replace it with a neater, cleaner, fresher glaze job...one that won't distract from the art work. However, not cracking the glass or cutting myself during that process is the tricky part!
OUCH...where's the band-aides?
New Piece...
by Michele L. Mueller on 07/20/10
I'm working with a set of windows that I really like - they are tall and narrow - one pane - and are perfect for tall florals.
I've completed one painting - "A Sunny Day" and am about to begin the second of the set. I was hoping to begin tonight but can only think about my soft pillow and fluffy bedding right now.
Okay, Michele...RE-focus...brushes...where's your brushes? Michele? hellOOO? Michele? And... you... call... yourself... an "artist"?!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Goodnight, ppl. :)
